ITS-E electronic module for SlimLine

This is how switchgear is becoming shrewder

The SlimLine series of switching devices is a series of three-pole and four-pole switching devices in "strip" form, which can be installed both horizontally and also vertically. On the basis of the wide range available, the SlimLine series is nowadays used for almost all applications in low-voltage substations. They are used, for example, to switch motor devices and also for busbar coupling.

The basic functions of the SlimLine devices, such as switching, protecting or monitoring a fuse, can now be extended with other functions by using an ITS-E electronic module. Using the ITS-E electronic module, it is possible, for example, to indicate and monitor switch position, fuse status on each phase, phase current or voltage, as well as temperature, power factor and power. Communication takes place via an open LonWorks Field bus system. Other systems, such as Profibus for example, can be included in the communication via a gateway. Devices in the ABB system INSUM2 or Advant Controller 31 are suitable as the central processing unit connected to the ITS-E electronics automated in a decentralised manner in this way, the statuses of the individual functions can be interrogated locally or remotely.

The advantages of such a monitoring solution are obvious: not only does accurate metering of power consumption have a cost-saving effect. A cost distribution over defined areas and users can easily be achieved using the ITS-E electronics. The availability of an installation is increased many times over by the interrogation of past data and by short disconnection times, through accurate fault indications.
