Competence in Switchgear Engineering

From Southern Harz* to Bangkok

(*Harz is a low mountain range in Germany.)

For the reliable operation of low-voltage substations, the circuit-breakers - being the essential safety devices - must not fail. ABB’s switchgear engineering programme produces two series of circuit-breakers for universal use in low-voltage distribution systems, meeting almost all customers’ requirements.

Compact !

... is the word to describe the circuit-breakers in the SACE Isomax S series. Its seven sizes, Isomax S1 to Isomax S7, offer solutions for rated continuous currents from 125A to 1600A, with short-circuit breaking capacities from 25 kA to 200 kA, 400 V AC. These versions fixed, plug-in and draw-out - offer versatile application possibilities, which are extended still further by their modular construction, with conversion kits creating the prerequisites for a great variety of versions. The Isomax S series of compact circuit-breakers also offers an extensive range of accessories, e.g. with open-circuit shunt releases and undervoltage releases. This also includes auxiliary switch breaks with different combinations of auxiliary contacts and trip indication. Electrical drives, which can also be filled retrospectively, enable the Isomax circuit-breakers to be operated by remote control. The circuit-breakers, of three-pole or four-pole design, are fitted with a rocker lever, but they can also be made with a rotary handle on the circuit-breaker or on the panel door. By virtue of three further SACE Isomax models, this versatile circuit-breaker can also be used for direct-current applications from 10 A to 800 A at voltages of up to 750 V DC.

Intelligent !

... is the word to describe the SACE Emax low-voltage circuit-breakers, by virtue of the microprocessor-controlled releases PR 111 and PR 112 specially developed for them.
The SACE Emax series consists of five circuit-breaker models, E1, E2, E3, E4 and E6, with only four different dimensions for all sizes, with all the SACE Emax circuit-breakers having the same overall height and overall depth. Being of modular construction, the series offers an extremely high degree of flexibility, particularly since the same accessories can be used for all the circuit-breakers. What is more, the same components make different functions possible. For example, the same trip-coils can be used for alternating current and direct current, and the shunt release and closing release are also identical. With their resistance to mechanical, electrical and thermal stresses, the Emax series can be used as circuit-breakers, as fixed or draw-out disconnectors, for rated currents from 800 A to 6300 A with a breaking capacity from 40 kA to 150 kA. A high short-circuit breaking capacity, double insulation, IP54 enclosure rating, circuit-breaker draw-out even with the panel door closed, and the fitting of accessories without the risk of an error/fault, - all this represents comprehensive safety/security.

Approval by most ships’ classification companies stands for international use.

South Harz Hospital at Nordhausen

...This is what all those involved in erecting the low-voltage substations for the South Harz Hospital at Nordhausen in Thüringen (Germany) were, for example, with regard to the performance of the SACE Isomax and SACE Emax circuit-breakers.
In adding a new block to the hospital, space is to be provided for a children’s clinic, neurology department, women’s clinic, radiation therapy, operating-theatre wing, intensive-care unit, administrative area and medical technology centre.

Planned by the M. and D. Gnuse Engineering Office of Erfurt and executed by the firm EAB Schmidt, Nordhausen, the central power supply of the Nordhausen South Harz Hospital is to be through an ABB UNI-KIT low-voltage substation with 30 bays/circuits in three blocks.
Open-type circuit-breakers SACE Emax E3 2500 A are used for the incoming feeder to each block. The outgoing feeders are equipped with compact circuit-breakers SACE Isomax S7 1000 A, Isomax S5 400 A and SlimLine SR-E fuse blocks. The state of the installation - including the measurement of relevant current and power data - is signalled to the central building services control system by a connected DDC system.

"Convinced" also applies to the firm EHB Schaltanlagen of Pyrbaum in the Upper Palatinate [Oberpfalz] when they were installing the main low-voltage distribution system for the new CITY-POINT Shopping Centre in Nuremberg. The low-voltage substation was equipped with SACE Isomax and SACE Emax circuit-breakers, as well as with Slim-Line blocks.
The advantages and characteristics of the ABB switchgear contributed greatly to the Nuremberg Shopping Centre being able to open on time on 26th February 1999, after an extremely short construction time.

Isomax compact circuit-breakers for power supply authority in Bangkok, Thailand.

"Convinced" also applies to the firm of Piller of Mechernich, which equipped the Lahmayer compact substations on the low-voltage side with 76 SACE Isomax compact circuit breakers S3 to S7. The substations were destined for a power supply undertaking in Bangkok, Thailand.
